A few simple rules...
The microphones are an expensive tool being loaned to you; please treat them like you would want your tools treated.
They aren't the most expensive mic's out there (I'm no fool), but they are far from cheap to replace. They tend to roll so please don't lay them anywhere except my work table. They're not designed to stand on end and they're not designed for whacking your hand or your buddy in the head.
Blowing on the microphones is injurious to them, the proper way to see if they are on is to speak into them (you know - “check 123”).
Cupping the mic head or wrapping your hand around the mic head will make you sound like crap, which is your prerogative, but if it induces feedback or equipment starts clipping your volume will be throttled back. Cupping or wrapping your hand around the mic AND screaming into the mic will create clipping conditions throughout the chain of equipment, consequently the mic will be turned off at that point.
If I feel you are abusing the mic or feel you are not sober enough to hang onto the mic, you probably won't get called up for a second song.
While the wireless microphones will effectively operate in most areas of the club or bar, it will get more difficult to hear yourself and the music the further from the performance area that you move. If you leave the line of sight of the receiver there may be some reception issues.
Please don’t ask for the volume to be turned up to make up for the fact that you have chosen to sit or perform outside the karaoke area.
Quiet Singers: For quiet singers I make the microphone as hot as I dare before feedback becomes an issue, at this point it’s up to the singer to produce some volume.
Please keep profanity to a minimum. I know F-words are fun to use on a microphone but they get old really quick for the rest of us, nuff said.
Karaoke is not a platform for espousing your political beliefs. If you want deliver a message do it with a song.
Nobody "owns" a song (except me, I own all of 'em :) . If someone beats you to a song and you REALLY REALLY feel the need to sing it you must wait at least one hour and at least one full round (whichever is longer).
Due to possible content restrictions, some songs in the songbook may not be available in some venues.
No horseplay around the equipment or speakers. Take it outside.
Please don't fold the books back upon themselves, it breaks the spines and causes the covers to separate from the book.
Rudeness will not be tolerated! Give the same respect to performers, as you would like to see for yourself. To get up & sing in front of people can be very intimidating if the crowd isn’t encouraging.
The most important thing to remember is we are all out to have fun. Either singing or just listening, please support the club you are in, remember if your favorite karaoke club does not make money, they will not continue the service for you!!
Added note: At any professional Karaoke show it costs the bar or club 2+ dollars for every song you sing. In some parts of the country the singers are charged a fee for each song, as this is not customary in this area the club needs to recoup the cost of karaoke through food and drinks sales. PLEASE bare this in mind when ordering. There are times when bar management will want me to favor singers who are spending money over those who are not. As in any job, I need to abide by the wishes of the person who writes me a paycheck!
